Wisbech Rugby club long-standing member, former 1st XV captain and serving management committee member Sid James, along with long-serving club secretary Dave Dobson, were recognised for services to rugby union in England by the RFU as valued volunteers.

The award was presented by Cambridgeshire RFU chairman Steve Drawbridge at a vice presidents’ lunch preceding the Wisbech versus Woodbridge London 3 Eastern Counties clash on Saturday.

Wisbech Rugby Club chairman Leonard Veenendaal said: “We are so proud of all our volunteers, the work they do and time they commit.

“Both Sid and Dave’s unselfish work and contribution in service of rugby and to the club over a great number of years, is enormous.

“We are fortunate and proud to have both of them and it is fantastic they are recognised and honoured at the highest level by the sport’s governing body in such a fitting manner.

“Thanks to both of them, and to all our volunteers!”
