Big win to end the season for Wisbech Vets
Wisbech Vets travelled to Boston on Saturday for their last game of the season.
Shortly after the start, James Patrick ran the length of the pitch to open the scoring, but the same player was unlucky not to convert.
Boston responded with a converted try of their own to take the lead 7-5 but, from an open passage of play, Patrick broke free and again ran the length of the pitch for his second try, converted by Steven Priest to make it 12-5.
Ben Chapman made some storming runs only to be denied five metres from the try line, before a quick penalty saw Skippy Parsons dive over to extend the lead to 17-7.
Then Ryan Tate rolled back the years to score before half time.
The strong replacements of Kerry Muffler and Marc Martin took to the field for the second half and Marc played a crucial role in some fast passages of play down the left wing and was unlucky not to score.
Boston put sustained pressure on the Wisbech try line only to be denied by Phil Cooper and Nigel Colman with some outstanding defensive play.
Phil Martell was next to show his hand with a fantastic break out releasing Josh Seale to score a try after a five year absence from the red shirt.
Tom Martel, after a characteristically feisty performance, was forced to leave the field injured, along with Dean Clarke.
Ryan Tate finished off a great performance and day with his second and the final try of the day, Steven Priest successful with the conversion. Final score 34-7 to the visitors.
A special mention goes to James Griffin who put in a stellar performance for Wisbech, with James Patrick named the Wisbech Round Table man of the match.
Wisbech captain Greg Brownlow said: “I would like to thank the Wisbech players who dug out their boots and came together for a great game, played in fantastic spirit.”
