Andrew Wool's March Athletic Club PB time at Oundle 20-mile as spring race season ends due to coronavirus
The spring race season is now almost completely cancelled due to Covid-19 and means that this weekend’s races may well be the last for some considerable time, due to concerns about the large number of runners being in close proximity to each other, writes Tracey Dickerson.
March Athletic Club had runners out in force, completing the races that had meant to be in preparation for spring marathons and half-marathons.
Certainly disappointed that their races have been cancelled or postponed after a long, hard winter of training, they took to the roads with optimism that the halt to the season will be short-lived and that the Covid-19 virus spread is curtailed as a result of the shut down.
Oundle saw its annual 20-mile pre-marathon race and March AC had three runners tackling the Northamptonshire rolling hills around the beautiful villages in the countryside in the wind and more rain.
First home was Andrew Wool in a superb PB of 2:32:43.
Elsewhere, Milton Keynes Running Festival also hosted a 20-miler and first-timer at the distance, Steve Robinett, completed the course in a fabulous 2:31:49.
Nearer to home, four March AC runners took on the half-marathon at Long Sutton and three took on the 10k on the same course. Here, the weather certainly made the relatively flat course more challenging.
Long Sutton, half marathon: Jon Long 1:56:08, Natasha Hardy 2:00:11, Leanne Haynes 2:03:02, Suzanna Bester 2:17:55.
10k: Wayne Stimson 43:33:2, Emma Cole 1:03:56, Nicky Wadlow Markillie 1:03:56.
Oundle 20-miler 15.03.20: Andrew Wool 2:32:43, Nina Markillie 2:17:18, Karen Dando 3:27:01. Milton Keynes 20-miler 15.03.20: Steve Robinett 2:31:49.
