Wisbech Town youngsters clinch Mid Norfolk Youth League cup success against Fenland rivals Outwell Swifts
Under-14 footballers from Wisbech Town have ended their first season together with a cup.
The young Fenmen were crowned Mid Norfolk Youth League cup winners after beating Fenland rivals Outwell Swifts, who won the league, 2-1, thanks to a late penalty from Zak Dahmani.
Wisbech had taken the lead through a well-worked goal finished by Greg Sawicki and Brian Olise-Prince came close to adding a third after hitting the woodwork in the dying stages of the final.
The newly formed squad has gone from strength to strength this season, putting together a meaningful unbeaten run, which enabled the side to slowly climb the table and book their spot in the cup final.
Although they started the final as massive underdogs, the Wisbech management team identified a system that suited the players' strengths and neutralised the attacking threat that Outwell had shown all season.
It is the third successive year that Wisbech Town's youth section has enjoyed success.
With the ongoing development of the Academy, which will cover both Sunday and Saturday football next season, the future is looking good for the development of the club’s future adult stars.
