Here's the monthly Hidden Gems (Culture Focus) article by Lorena Hodgson of Red Barn Creative...

I am pleased to bring you this piece of artwork from Helen Scott-Daniels.

It is on show in the front of the Community Hub building.

Helen is just one of the local artists that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with over the last few years.

I have met some new artist/makers recently too, who have moved to the area. It’s good to see more creative people finding the town and being inspired by it and the Fen landscape.

As well as the jewellers, painters, glass artists and makers already exhibiting their wares, we’ve got the beginnings of a real creative collective starting.

Thinking about who else we intend to support as part of the Hub, such as those who make other local products (we were thinking honey and beeswax wraps), Helen and I came up with the name Fen Makers – so covering anything made in the local area.

We can also use the name to talk about heritage crafts and what is traditional to the area, following on from a project I did some years ago called Made in the Fens.

See www.redbarn

creative.org.uk/fens for more details on that, and there will be a mini exhibition of what I found out during that research.

Re-reading it now shows me how far I’ve come in running projects and raising funds for them.

It’s not easy working in the cultural sector, especially when there’s so many more demands on people’s time and money these days, but I really appreciate all the support that you are giving to this latest venture.

I look forward to bringing you details of other events as more organisations develop their talk/exhibition/

activity programs this year as we (slowly but surely I hope) come out of the Covid-19 pandemic.
