Father Christmas will be coming to town in March this weekend to set off the sparkling festive lights.

The Christmas lights switch-on is an important event in the town’s social calendar and this year’s event is set to be one of the best yet.

Residents and shoppers will be turning out in force on Friday for an evening of festive fun.

Stalls will be lining High Street and Broad Street offering a range of treats and gift ideas.

Funfair rides and other activities will also be set out in the town centre for the night.

Duo In The Mood will be entertaining during the evening, with music starting at 6.30pm. Performances could go on until 9pm depending on the weather.

Father Christmas will be making an early appearance to switch on the lights with the help of a cadet from the town’s Air Cadet unit.

The event is once again being organised by March Town Council.

Town clerk Clive Lemmon is hoping to see a good turn-out.

He said: “We hope people will continue to support the event as they have done in the past.

“It starts the run-up to Christmas nicely and the shops also get involved by decorating their windows.”

n An inaccuracy appeared in last week’s Citizen story on the signing of the lease for the Estover Playing Field.

We incorrectly stated that the lease spanned 125 years, but it in fact covers 99 years. We apologise for the error.
