Wisbech church to host free concert with trumpet virtuoso John Barker

Trumpet virtuoso John Barker is returning to St Peter’s Church, Wisbech to play in a Free Grand Celebration Concert on Sunday, July 31.

Those who have heard John play there before or have listened to his playing in the Market Place know visitors are in for a treat.

John is a trumpet soloist who has performed for Royalty, made recordings with major session orchestras and played on the film soundtrack of the Full Monty.

Despite a busy touring schedule, he finds time to play in town centres, bringing solace to shoppers with a talent that defies definition.

Ever since Hilary Robinson, Producer of ‘Good Morning Sunday’ on Radio 2, heard John’s playing in Castleford, tracks from his albums have featured on her show.

The concert, which starts at 2.30pm (doors open 1.45pm) will celebrate the completion of restoration work at the church, carried out with a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The concert is sponsored by the Elizabeth Wright Charity which supports education and charity work in St Peter’s Church and the town.

There are no tickets for this free concert – just turn up and enjoy the music.

A collection will be made for the continuing restoration and maintenance of the church.
