Purina’s Pet Pride Awards crown professional pooch Wisbech’s Best Pet at Work
Alfie, an eight-year-old Lhasa Apso, has been crowned Wisbech’s Best Pet at Work as part of the recent Purina Pet Pride Awards, in recognition of the heartwarming impact he has on his owner, Debbie, and her colleagues while they’re at work.
The judges selected Alfie as the winner of the category after hearing about how his friendly and energetic personality has brightened up Debbie’s work places since she started taking him with her to work when he was just six weeks old.
Politely demanding attention and providing lots of cuddles throughout the day, Alfie even likes to perch on the desk of Debbie’s colleague at her current customer service job, and has been known to join important team meetings!
Pet care company, Purina, launched the Pet Pride Awards to celebrate the amazing cats and dogs in Wisbech and the surrounding area as part of its recent £150 million investment into its Wisbech factory, which has been part of the community since 1998 and employs more than 500 local people.
And Alfie hasn’t just had an impact where Debbie works now; in her previous role, the premises were beneath a therapy centre for children and adults, and Alfie always greeted clients, provided a warm welcome and put a smile on their faces before they headed for their sessions.
Commenting on Alfie’s award win, owner Debbie, said: “I almost burst with pride when I found out Alfie had won the Best Pet at Work award. He really is such a great pup, and he makes any room he’s in a better place to be, whether that’s at home where my grandchildren adore him and where he’s a true member of the family, or at work where he makes even the most stressful days feel calmer!”
Jez McInerney, Purina’s Wisbech Factory Manager, said: “At Purina we know that when people and pets bond, life becomes richer, and it’s truly heartwarming to hear of the difference pets like Alfie are making to the local community every day.
“Our Wisbech factory is committed to creating top quality nutrition for pets in our local area and it’s great to be able to celebrate our recent investment by giving back to the local community with these awards. We hope that Alfie continues to support people at work and enjoys his prize!”
As a reward for being named the Best Pet at Work, Alfie has been given Winalot dog food to enjoy – one of the popular pet food brands Purina makes at its Wisbech factory.
The investment into the Purina Wisbech factory includes a series of developments designed to modernise the technology and machinery on its production lines, enhance the facilities for colleagues, improve energy efficiency and help reduce carbon emissions over the coming years.
