Baby bank at Wisbech has outgrown its premises
The Fenland Families and Baby Bank at Wisbech is turning into such a success story that it is on the lookout for larger premises.
With financial support from a charitable foundation and a profile that has been boosted by a Fenland Citizen business award, it is a project that is booming.
The non-profit venture was set up in 2020 by mum of four, Rachel Green to help relieve child poverty, for families with children between the age of 0-13 years old, where their parents/carer are experiencing financial hardship.
Clarion Housing is one of a number of organisations offering support, including £10,000 towards rent and utility bill at the Union Street premises.
“We also recently won the unsung heroes award as well as the customer care award at the Fenland Business awards last month which means a lot us,” said Rachel.
“We are seeing a vast increase in more and more families coming through the door, not only from mums and dads but grandparents too.
“We would love to provide a communal area for the public to come have a chat, have a cuppa or just to get out of the house and see other faces.
“We offer support in mental health by helping and supporting all families all the way through from pregnancy to birth and early years and we also have parents of children with disabilities who will also come to us not only to buy items but also for help and support and advice.
She said they were also grateful for the many donations that are taken to the shop.
“It is amazing but now we are bursting at the seams and if we are able to go ahead with our community hub ambition we really need to find larger premises,” said Rachel.
“We would love to hear from anyone with ideas to help us.”
The Fenland Families and Baby Bank at 11 Union Street in Wisbech is open from 10am-4pm Tuesdays to Fridays all year round and every other Saturday until the end of September.
