Back to work after weekend's marathon effort for three Fenland charity runners




It was business as usual today (Monday) for three local people who completed the London Marathon yesterday for charity.

Teachers Laura Garlick and Gayna O'Rourk were back in the classroom at the Cromwell Community College in Chatteris proudly clutching their medals to show off to pupils.

Laura, an English teacher at the school wanted to run the 2019 London Marathon just 19 months after giving birth to her son and managed to not only compete it in 4hrs 19 mins she also raised money for the British Lung Foundation.

Meanwhile Gayna, who teaches music, ran for the charity Children with Cancer finishing in 4hrs 57mins. She is now two thirds of the way through her ambition to complete three marathons this year having completed the Manchester run three weeks ago. She will now turn her sights to training for the York Marathon this October.

Meanwhile Wisbech small business man Dave Kerridge was also celebrating his success. David, who is a Wisbech-based newspaper roundsman and runs a small business with is wife Alison, only took up running last year.

But with a 600m sprint for the line down The Mall he managed to pip the clock and finished just one minute short of 5hrs crossing the line in 4hrs 59mins.

He said: "The day was quite something, what an experience. Our fundraising has hit £4,700, which is amazing. The good people of Wisbech and surrounding villages have been so kind and generous."

David, 49, had initially set a target of £1,750 for the PhabKids charity which provides support for disabled children all over the UK.
