Banned driver from Wisbech is shopped by his ex for driving a car
A court was told a banned Wisbech driver who got behind the wheel was shopped to police by his ex-girlfriend.
Solicitor Andrew Cogan told magistrates that several items belonging to Micael Santos were placed in a car as a home was being cleared. Then his ex-partner phoned him to say he needed to come and collect the car and Santos went to do so.
“She then telephoned police saying Micael Santos is now driving this car and he’s heading towards Wisbech,” Mr Cogan told King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Santos was stopped in a Honda Civic at Tilney All Saints and admitted being banned. Just under five grams of cannabis was found in the centre console.
He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, having no insurance and possession of a class B controlled drug.
Santos, a forklift driver, told the court that he now lives next to a BP garage but his address was so new that he did not know it. He gave a contact address of a friend in North Brink.
Santos was disqualified from driving for 12 months and given a 12-month community order with 300 hours’ unpaid work. For the drug possession, he was fined £200 and told to pay £90 victim surcharge and £85 costs. There was no separate penalty for the insurance offence.
An order was made for the forfeiture and destruction of the cannabis.
