Bomb scare sees Fenland homes evacuated
A number of homes had to be evacuated in a Fenland street yesterday evening (Thursday) after fears a bomb had been found.
The incident happened at around 3.21pm when police received a 999 call reporting a possible World War Two mortar had been found following some excavation works in |Norwood Road, in connection with a suspected water leak.
The area was closed and bomb disposal experts were called to deal with the incident.
A number of properties were evacuated while the Royal Logistic Corps team examined the item and within a short time found it be steel piping.
The area was deemed safe and people were allowed back in their homes.
Posting to their Facebook page Fenland police said: "Thanks to members of the public for their patience in this matter."
