Brides’ tears as plans shattered

Hundreds of brides have been left with their wedding dreams in tatters after an events company in Whittlesey went into liquidation.

LA Weddings and Events announced they were going into liquidation earlier this week, leaving couples, who had planned their big day with the firm, out of pocket.

Distraught bride-to-beLaura McNealis (35) from Cardea, used the firm to plan her wedding to Terry O’Shaughnessy, which is planned to take place in Nassington in September.

She said: “I was gutted when I heard. I’ve got three months until my wedding, but my friend’s wedding is on Sunday. She should have been relaxing in the week before her wedding , but has been having to sort things out.

“I only found out when I saw the message on Facebook. We had not had any problems with them before. We had paid £600 for things like chair covers, a chocolate fountain and centre pieces.

“We have managed to find someone who has stepped in – Daisy Chain Florists – who have been so helpful, but we have had to make some sacrifices compared to what we originally wanted.

“A wedding is the most special day – what little girl didn’t dream of her special day.”

A Facebook group has been set up with more than 200 people who have been affected by the closure posting.

A post on Facebook by LA Weddings this week said: “It is with a heavy heart that I inform you all that LA Weddings and Events has ceased trading as of today 14th June and I am forced to begin the liquidation process following the sudden and unexpected departure of two members of staff and the consequences this has had on the company.

“This is not a decision I have taken lightly, on the contrary I spent all yesterday exhausting all other options and am absolutely gutted that this is the only option I have been left with, I can only apologise for this and will release the name of the company dealing with this in due course.”

The Peterborough Telegraph attempted to contact the firm without success.
