Bulky waste collection service resumes in Fenland

Fenland District Council’s normal Bulky Waste Collection Service has resumed this week.

The pre-booked kerbside collections were only available in exceptional circumstances during the peak of coronavirus, to help keep essential household waste and recycling services running.

Now normal bookings have resumed, with measures in place to ensure the safety of residents and the collection crews.

Councillor Peter Murphy, the council’s portfolio holder for the environment, said: “Our refuse crews have been working incredibly hard to keep our critical services running and thanks to them, we can now restart our normal bulky waste collection service.

“The service offers residents a cost effective way to get rid of their household waste and, unlike unregistered waste collectors who advertise on social media, we can absolutely guarantee that we dispose of the waste correctly and, as a result, you can be sure it won’t

end up fly-tipped in a local beauty spot.

“We do however need to protect our staff and ensure they are able to follow important social distancing guidelines. In line with our collection policy, items are only collected from the outside of properties and staff are not able to enter any part of the home, including back gardens, to retrieve items.

“We also ask that residents help us in staying alert and notifying us if anyone in their household has been affected by the virus at the time of booking.”

Among the items accepted for the bulky waste service are furniture, such as sofas and beds, household electrical items, such as fridges and TVs, and other ‘white goods’ like washing machines or ovens.
