Culture Day at Askham Village Community in Doddington

Askham Village Community held a Culture Day celebration, bringing residents, staff, families and visitors together to honour the many cultures at the Doddington care and rehabilitation facility.

The event welcomed a much larger turnout than expected and the function room was transformed with vibrant costumes, cultural decorations and beautiful henna designs.

There was a generous spread of traditional food prepared and shared by team members, residents, and the wider community, while music and movement filled the room. Team members embraced the opportunity to represent their cultures.

One of the standout moments was a residents’ dance performance featuring residents from Askham Grove care home and events coordinator Kelly Hayes.

Kelly Hayes said: “We didn’t expect such a big turnout this year – it was wonderful! The energy in the room was incredible. Seeing the Grove residents put their hearts into the dance and being up there with them was truly special. It’s a memory I’ll hold onto for a long time.”

Manu Magar, one of the registered managers, also surprised everyone by taking part in a performance. He said: “Culture Day reminded us how much richness and connection there is in sharing where we come from. It was a privilege to be part of the celebrations – not just as a manager, but as someone proud to celebrate alongside our residents and colleagues.”
