Wisbech drink driver crashed car after watching banger racing

A 66-year old driver crashed his car while driving over the alcohol limit.

Nigel Lovitt appeared in Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted the offence.

Prosecutor Sally Harris explained that on Sunday, October 22, police were called to the scene of the crash on Saddlebow Road in Saddlebow.

Officers arrived at 6.20pm and found Lovitt sitting behind the wheel of the Izuzu Trooper.

A breath test was conducted on Lovitt which came back with a reading of 65mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit to drive is 35mcg.

He appeared unrepresented in court and explained he was leaving the Adrian Flux Arena after watching the banger racing.

When asked if he wanted to provide any more mitigation, Lovitt said: “Not really, but I hold my hands up to it. I’m not going to argue.”

Magistrates decided to disqualify Lovitt, of The Dale Elm in Wisbech, from driving for 17 months and fined him £184.

He will also pay a victim surcharge of £74 and court costs of £105.
