Chatteris family whose house was devastated by fire appeal for scaffolding help
A family whose house was ripped apart after a fire is appealing for help to rebuild their home.
Last month, Kirsty Hayden and her family were left with nothing after the devastating house fire in Chatteris, which took 20 firefighters more than four hours to get under control.
The community rallied round to support them immediately after the fire, raising nearly £6,000, and now they are hoping that someone will be able to help them to begin the process of rebuilding their home by providing them with scaffolding.
Kirsty said: “We thought life was bad enough with coronavirus, but at least we had a roof over our heads then.
“We’ve got so much to do - the whole house - and scaffolding is just so expensive.
“We need it so that we can get the roof trusses up when they arrive in July.
“We were leant the money for the trusses because we can’t access the GoFundMe funds yet as there’s been a problem with it.”
Following the fire, a friend’s parents leant the family £1,200 to allow them to order the roof trusses, which will take around five weeks to make and deliver.
Kirsty is living in a caravan close to the property with her partner, Andrew, and their youngest daughter, but due to space issues her two other daughters and the family dog have been forced to live elsewhere.
Kirsty said: “We can’t even live together now as there just isn’t room - it’s so hard being away from my kids.”
