Fenland Sue Ryder shop runs Christmas open day for potential volunteers

The Sue Ryder shop in Wisbech is running a fun open day on the day of the town's Christmas market for potential volunteers to find out more about volunteering.

The shop on the Market Place will be open throughout the Christmas Fayre this Sunday (11) and manager Emma Lyden is hoping people will pop in to see if volunteering is something that they could do in their spare time.

Running from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, Emma will be on hand with her team of shop assistants and volunteers to answer any questions and to showcase what volunteering for Sue Ryder is all about.

The session has been organised to help the community understand more about volunteering for Sue Ryder and how it helps raise vital funds for the charity’s palliative, bereavement and neurological services.

Over the last two years, Sue Ryder shops have been heavily impacted by the pandemic, so to give the shop a new boost, the shop team is looking for keen volunteers to join the team on Market Place

Volunteers at Sue Ryder can help with everything from sorting and preparing stock, to merchandising and sales. By supporting the charity in this way, locals can help to make a real difference to people’s lives while meeting new people and creating a new social circle in their area.

Emma said: “Our upcoming open day is an opportunity to show more of our local community why volunteering for Sue Ryder is so important. As it’s on the day of the Christmas market, we hope to spread some festive cheer too, as we’ll all be in our Christmas jumpers.

“Being a volunteer is flexible and can be timed to suit the individual, whether that’s mornings, weekends or a mix of everything. All contributions will help raise money for Sue Ryder to provide services to people facing a terminal illness, neurological condition or a bereavement. Our amazing volunteers help ensure Sue Ryder can be there when it matters.”

Sue Ryder has over 400 shops across the UK which are packed with an eclectic mix of treasures - from clothes to furniture, musical instruments to wedding dresses.

It is thanks to the generosity of the public who donate their unwanted items and our team of volunteers who give their time that we are able to provide more care to more people through our bereavement, palliative and neurological services.

Sue Ryder supports people through the most difficult times of their lives. Whether that’s a terminal illness, bereavement, or a neurological condition – we’re there when it matters.

For over 65 years our doctors, nurses and carers have given people the compassion and expert care they need to help them live the best life they possibly can.
