Fitness fun boost for fundraising friends' from Wisbech who will be taking on Three Peaks Challenge

A fitness event in aid of a charity which supports children and their families diagnosed with a brain tumour raised £475.

The event organised by friends Mel Mattless from Upwell and Jo Butler from Wisbech was held at Friday Bridge and was well attended by keep fit enthusiasts, despite a last minute venue change.

The pair are among a group, which is taking on the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of the Indee Rose Trust this summer, and have organised various fundraising events to help boost the amount they raise for the charity.

The trust was set up by Russell Dobson and his partner Jane Allen, who lost their daughter Indee to a brain tumour 10 years ago.

Mel has known the couple through friends for a number years and has undertaken other fundraising efforts to help the charity including completing a gruelling 29 mile hike last year.

Among the support given by the charity are bespoke ‘treasure’ boxes, which contain toys, activities and treats individually filled for each child. Most of the children are referred to the charity through Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. They cost from around £500 each, depending on what the child likes.

Mel explained: “There are 10 of us and we hope to raise enough to provide at least one treasure box each."

The Three Peaks Challenge will see the team climb all three of Britain's highest peaks: Ben Nevis, Scafel Pike and Mount Snowdon in just 24 hours.

There is a second fundraising event organised by Mel and Jo, which is being held on Saturday, March 28, at Mendis in Wisbech. It is a Bond-themed evening and tickets are £10 from: 3peaksjune2020@gmail.com or via the Facebook page: @3peaks2020indeerose
