Gallery: Former Cromwell pupils enjoy special reunion

Ex-Fenland school pupils travelled from as far afield as the Outer Hebrides for a special reunion at the weekend.

The former students from years 1968 to 1973 from Cromwell School in Chatteris attended the reunion organised by Denise Allen, which was held at the town's Working Men's Club on Saturday night.

Denise, who has organised six previous reunions, was hoping for around 50 people to attend the event, but was overwhelmed when 130 actually came along.

She left school in 1972 and has organised reunions for her own year group since the first one in 1996 when they all turned 40.

This year's event also included two former teachers Kath Childs and John Goodall.

Tickets for the event, which included a buffet, were £12 and the profit from sales together with money from a raffle on the night saw £1,014.57 raised for Cancer Research.

Denise said: "We have lost lots of friends over the years to cancer and two in particular this year, so it only seemed right to raise money for Cancer Research.

"I would like to thank local businesses that helped with prizes especially Knowles Transport who donated a big chocolate and drinks hamper.

"One of our friends, who travelled from the Isle of Lewis brought a lovely Scottish hamper, with all local goodies including from the bakery.

"This took over six months to organise and to track people down and I would like to thank Vic Joyce and Roger Betts who helped me find people. We have a Facebook page and that has made things easier it's called Cromwell School Reunion 1968-1973 - if anyone would like to join.

"We're now hoping to organise another reunion in a couple of years' time."
