General Election 2024: Early predictions have Conservative Steve Barclay primed to hold North East Cambridgeshire

Conservative Steve Barclay is predicted to hold North East Cambridgeshire but with a reduced majority.

Early predictions at the count at the Hudson Leisure Centre in Wisbech has Mr Barclay winning around 42% of the vote, with Labour and Reform vying for second place on around 26%.

The second place is too close to call according to one source, but the Tories are confident former Health and Environment Secretary Mr Barclay will be returned for a fifth term of office.

At the last election in 2019 Mr Barclay polled 77% of the votes with a majority of practically 30,000.

Currently, four of the six candidates are in the sports hall as verification continues before the actual counting of votes begins.

Those missing are Mr Barclay and Labour’s Javeria Hussain.
