Gofundme to help Wisbech mum in cancer battle make memories and live without stress
More than £3,400 has been raised in a little over a week to support a Wisbech mum as she battles cancer.
Lauren Thomas has set up a Gofundme page to help her mum Karen Thomas, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this month.
Karen, who runs Karen’s Driving School in the town, and her family were rocked by the news that she had Small Cell Cancer of the stomach.
Small Cell Cancer is a rare and very aggressive type of the disease, and it is usually found in a far advanced stage.
Explaining Karen’s situation on the Gofundme page Lauren said her Mum had complained of shoulder pain, but when she went to the doctor she was rushed in for a CT scan, which revealed a number of masses in numerous parts of the body.
Lauren said: “After initially being referred to a surgeon, who said there was no way of operating, Mum was then referred to an oncologist who gave us the sad news that it was too far gone to cure the cancer, and without chemotherapy, she would only have weeks to live.
“Mum started her chemo on Friday, October 11, and has gone from working full time as a driving instructor to having to quit her job and stay home due to the risk of infection and the pain she is in, this has obviously been a huge shock and a massive financial strain.
“All of the family is helping and contributing as much as possible but we thought Mum deserves to live the rest of her life without stress and strain. We believe she deserves to have the chance to make some memories and enjoy, to the fullest, the time she has left with us.”
