Fenland Business Awards: Goldstar Metal Trader named Environmental Champion

Winners of the Environmental Champion category said their journey towards helping the environment began 10 years ago as they stepped up to collect award.

Ben Ward, Neil Bowers and Andy Willy of Goldstar Metal Traders said: “We are very surprised, people are very pleased and very happy.

“It is onwards and upwards from here so we will continue to do what we keep doing and keep moving forward.

“Our journey started 10 years ago and tonight is a summing up of where we have got to after 10 years of hard work.”

There were two finalists in this category, which sought to recognise a company that was able to best demonstrate a commitment to reduce its carbon footprint, improve use of resources by cutting waste, reduce pollution and increase its environmental understanding and they were: Gaea’s Soul and Goldstar Metal Traders.

This category was judged and presented by Sharron Marriott, Iliffe Media’s events manager,who said: “Both entrants are making great efforts to help the environment. The only difference I could point to was that one entrant was further along the journey than the other.”

Goldstar Metal Traders are specialists in servicing factory premises, demolition sites and waste transfer facilities for the disposal for scrap metal.

​They supply a wide range of containers such as stillages and roll-ons and currently have over 400 skips and containers in service throughout the Midlands and East Anglia.

After presenting them with the award, Sharron had a message for Zoe at Gaea’s Soul - she said: “I would just like to give a special mention to Zoe at Gaea’s soul who has overcome some really tough life challenges to be where she is today in her business journey. Zoe, I am certain that it can only go one way for you. Keep building. Keep going. You are most definitely one to watch.”
