GP surgeries in Wisbech announce new extended opening hours for patients
GP surgeries in Wisbech have announced they will be offering extended opening hours to patients.
The move comes after last week when the Citizen reported complaints by one patient who was unhappy at the way the Clarkson Surgery had changed its appointment system, meaning anyone wanting to see their doctor had to go through a phone call triage system.
Other surgeries in the town operate similar triage systems. The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group, which is responsible for local GP services, explained there was a need to ensure people were getting the right kind of medical help and the triage system aimed to sign post patients to the 'most appropriate' clinician.
This week the GP practices, have announced they will be additional appointments on Wednesday evenings 6.30pm to 7.30pm and Saturday mornings 8am to 12pm the the Wisbech GP hub.
The new appointments, which will come in to play next month, are available to patients of all three surgeries: North Brink, Clarkson , Trinity plus Parson Drove Surgery and will be provided at the North Brink Practice.
Explaining the new service, hub manager Phillip Wareing said: “Wisbech GP Hub will provide an additional 68 appointments each week which are managed by qualified nurses, supervised by a GP. The service is for patients seeking routine appointments for conditions they would normally see their GP for.
"We hope the new service provides some further options to those patients who may find it difficult to get to their GP during normal opening hours”
Patients can pre-book into these appointments two weeks in advance simply by asking at their own GP practice.
