Have your say on Fenland Council’s licensing policy

Residents and business owners are being urged to have their say on how licences should be managed in Fenland.

Fenland District Council is seeking views on its Draft Statement of Licensing Policy, which sets out how it regulates businesses that sell or supply alcohol, provide entertainment or late-night refreshments across the district.

The statement outlines the way the Council will consider licence applications from such businesses and the policy measures it will implement to ensure they comply with the four statutory licensing objectives.

Councillor Sam Clark, is portfolio holder for licensing.

These are: The prevention of crime and disorder; public safety; the prevention of public nuisance; the protection of children from harm.

The current policy runs from 2016 to 2021 and by law it must be updated every five years.

Councillor Sam Clark, Fenland’s portfolio holder for licensing, said: “We take our responsibility as the licensing authority in Fenland very seriously.

“We recognise both the needs of residents for a safe and healthy environment to live and work and the importance of well managed entertainment businesses to the local economy and vibrancy of the district.

“Therefore, it is extremely important we get the policy right for both businesses and residents and that we work in partnership with the police, fire service, other authorities and the whole community towards the promotion of the licensing objectives.”

A public consultation on the Draft Statement of Licensing Policy runs until 15 November.
