Home is where the heart is as Wisbech carer brings award to Orchards House




A Wisbech care home is celebrating after scooping an prize at the Great British Care Home Awards held in Milton Keynes.

Orchard House had five finalists for the home, but only four were able to attend the ceremony held at MK Dons, all up for different categories, supported by their home manager.

There were many different companies in attendance and live music was provided by Ray Quinn and there was also a fabulous three course meal.

Honey Berry, who was a finalist in the dementia carer award, successfully picked up the trophy.

Other finalists were Samantha Alderton, finalist for the care home team award; Meghan Summers for the care newcomer award and Miranda Robinson, finalist for the activity organiser award.

Samantha said “I was as proud as punch to be at this event as a finalist but then to have a team member bring home an award made it even more special. Shows us as a care home team what we do is worthwhile and how much of a difference we make by being us and doing what we do.”

Meghan Summers said: “I’m feeling proud of making the finals of the British care awards. A great night had!”

Miranda Robinson said: “ It was an honour to be a finalist for what I enjoy doing and it was amazing that one of our team members had won an award for a job she is passionate about. I am proud to be a part of the team I work with at Orchard House, and this shows how incredibly invested we are in ensuring our residents have a fulfilling life with us.”

Honey Berry said: “Being a finalist in my category was an amazing achievement for me as I felt recognised for the hard work, I do day in and day out. Dementia is a diagnosis which is very close to my heart. I am the dementia ambassador of Orchard House and winning the award for dementia carer is an overwhelming feeling I’m not quite over yet.

"But of course, I couldn’t have achieved this award without the amazing support of my team and manager. Home is where the heart is, and I brought the award home to Orchard House.”

Sarah Watson Said “ I am incredibly proud as home manager to have had so many staff as finalists for different categories. They all work incredibly hard and deserved the opportunity to be recognised. It was a magical moment when Honey bought home an award, that was greatly deserved and was an honour to be awarded this at such a prestigious event. I endeavour to continue to support my staff with the dedication they have to their roles.”
