March parents plan Easter egg surprise for hospitals that saved their baby's life
Parents of an 11-month-old baby are planning to celebrate his first birthday with gifts to the hospitals that saved his life.
Chelsey Webb and Harley Vallance, from March, are so grateful for the treatment baby Lincoln received at both the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn where he was born seven weeks early, and Great Ormond Street Hospital in London they are planning Easter treats as a thank-you.
Lincoln will turn one on April 4 - Easter Sunday - and Chelsey explained: "Lincoln was diagnosed with truncas arteriosus a serious heart condition when he was just two days old at the QEH.
"He was transferred to Great Ormond Street and at six weeks old he underwent open heart surgery. The operation took 12 hours - it was the longest 12 hours. Everywhere was in lockdown and so there wasn't much we could do, so we hired 'Boris bikes' and had a ride around London to take our minds off it.
"The hospital were absolutely brilliant, they looked after Lincoln and us fantastically and we just want to say thank-you for saving his life. He will need further operations as he grows and they are regularly monitoring him - they are amazing.
"As Lincoln's first birthday is on Easter Sunday we thought it would be nice to give something back. We are raising money to buy Easter eggs to say thank-you to the staff and for the other sick children who will be in both hospitals on the day.
"We set a target originally of £250 but people have been brilliant and we smashed that, so we have now put it up to £750. The idea is to also give money to the Children's Acute Transport Service (CATS), which safely transport Lincoln from King's Lynn to Great Ormond Street. If there is any money left over then we want to give it to a friend who is also from March.
"She sadly lost her baby in December and she is fundraising to buy hampers with teas and things for the maternity bereavement ward at Hinchingbrooke Hospital."
Chelsey added: "Lincoln is doing really well now and we are looking forward too celebrating his birthday, he is almost walking. It is amazing how well he has bounced back after everything he has been through.
"It certainly has been the most stressful year or our lives, and we are just grateful to have Lincoln with us - he is such a placid baby, always smiling and happy."
