Marie Humphrey of Gorefield has handed over £2,000 to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge to say thanks for the care she received there
A Gorefield woman has said 2,000 thank-yous to a hospital for the amazing treatment she received while she was seriously ill.
Marie Humphrey was admitted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge in February last year when she suffered a major flare-up of an auto-immune condition she has had for many years.
The 69-year-old originally planned a coffee morning to say thank-you to Dr Philip Buttery, a consultant neurologist at the hospital, and his team, when she was discharged.
But as plans grew the coffee morning turned into a major fundraising garden party complete with live music, games a bouncy castle and refreshments held at Marie and husband Michael's home in Gorefield at the end of June.
A total of £2,000 was raised by Marie and her supporters for Addenbrooke's neurology department, and last week she went along to the Cambridge hospital to handover the cheque.
Marie, who has suffered from myasthenia gravis, which affects the muscles making them weak, and also causes her double vision, for the past 14 years, was amazed by the support the event attracted and the amount raised. Adding the sunshine on the day helped to make is such a success.
She said: "I would like to thank everyone for their help and support with the event, without which none of this would have been possible."
Marie added: "I always receive excellent treatment from my specialist at King's Lynn but when I was taken ill in February he referred me straight to Addenbrooke's.
"The care I received was second to none and when I came home I decided I wanted to do something to say thank-you. I always hold a coffee morning for Macmillan in September and thought I'd do one in the summer and have it in the garden and it spiralled from there to become more like a mini-fete "
