McDonald's will 'look different' as Drive Thru restaurants set to reopen

Popular fast-food company McDonald's has today announced it will be reopening all of its Drive Thru restaurants across the United Kingdom next week.

After a successful trial, the company has confirmed 924 Drive Thru restaurants will reopen between Tuesday, June 2 and Thursday, June 4.

McDonald's, which has Drive Thrus in Long Sutton and Wisbech, will confirm which days each restaurant is reopening on next week.

There will be a limited menu due to fewer employees in the company's kitchens and service areas.

This is to ensure social distancing is in place as customers are asked to limit their spending to £25 and use contactless payment methods wherever possible.

A spokesperson said: "Our teams are adjusting to new safety and hygiene procedures, which will help them to work safely and social distance; we appreciate your continued patience.

"Perspex screens and new safety and hygiene processes mean it will look different, it will take a little longer and as we have seen in the pilot restaurants, we expect demand will be high. Please bear with us, we will continue to put our people first – their safety is our priority.

"In the last week, on occasion, we have taken the decision to close Drive Thru lanes where demand has impacted local communities or the safety of our people or customers.

"We will continue to work with local authorities and the police as we extend our reopening plans.

"We are continuing to review these measures as we reopen, but for now, these restrictions remain in place to help our employees, customers and delivery partner couriers to remain safe.

"To manage the anticipated demand, we will release the locations of the reopening restaurants on the morning of each day."

The company is also starting to expand the availability of McDelivery. A total of 75 restaurants will be added to McDelivery via either Uber Eats or Just Eat.
