Chatteris Midsummer Festival to have cartoon characters-themed parade, dog show, water fights, and much more

A packed weekend of fun and entertainment is planned for Chatteris Midsummer Festival.

The festival is at Furrowfields Recreation Ground on Saturday, June 28 from 10am-10.30pm, and Sunday, June 29 from 10am-4pm.

On the Saturday, it will be £2 admission for adults and £1 for children to attend. The parade will assemble at 10.30am at the Church Lane car park and will set off at 11am to arrive at the recreations ground for 11.30am, when a fancy dress contest’s judging will take place.

There is still time to get involved with the parade, which this year has a TV cartoon characters theme. The recreation ground will be full of colourful live performances, stalls and delicious food.

On Sunday it will be £1 admission, with a dog show planned – weather permitting, to be replaced with children’s sporting activities if it cannot go ahead – as well as colour fun runs for all the family and a tug of war.

Register at the recreation ground in the morning to take part. The day is also set to include strawberry cream teas in the marquee, water fights, and a family disco with a foam cannon.

Cllr Jan French, Fenland District Council’s portfolio holder for parks and open spaces, said: “Our thanks go to the small, dedicated team, primarily of volunteers, who pull this event together every year.

“It promises to be another wonderful event for the community, and we urge people to go along and make the most of it.”

Walking, cycling, and the use of public transport to get to the event are encouraged for those who can.

Town centre road closures will be in place on Saturday to allow for the parade to pass through. To minimise disruption, roads reopen once the parade has passed.

Motorists are requested to park courteously. Free parking is available on Furrowfields Road car parks, although access to these is not possible during the parade.

The council has urged people not to park on Furrowfields Road itself or the neighbouring side streets to help keep pedestrians safe and minimise nuisance for residents.

With the exception of entry to the festival, Furrowfields Recreation Ground will be closed to the public from Friday, June 27, to Monday, June 30, to enable setup and removal of equipment.
