MP Steve Barclay bowls up for youth cricket tournament
Fenland notched up a first when March Town Cricket Club hosted a special tournament attended by local MP Steve Barclay.
The club was the venue for the first English Cricket Board Dynamos tournament in Cambridgeshire and saw over 80 junior players from March, Wisbech, Ely, Haddenham and Sutton cricket clubs take part.
Mr Barclay, who opened the tournament by bowling the first ball, said: “The sports stars of the future start with grass roots sport so it was fantastic to see so many eight to 11-year old boys and girls at March.
“This is a specially designed format and Fenland was the first area chosen in East Anglia.
“Thanks to Neil Liversedge, Les Mills and all the team at March Town Cricket Club, and the parents and carers who brought children along with teams from March, Wisbech, Ely, Haddenham and Sutton cricket clubs.”
The club's Neil Liversedge said: "Steve, thank you so much for coming an supporting us yesterday. The standard of cricket played was far higher than any of the coaches could have hoped for, with some massive hits, accurate bowling, excellent catches and brilliant fielding and that is a credit to what the children have learned through the Dynamos programme."
Dynamos Cricket provides a fantastic next step for all those graduating from All Stars Cricket and the perfect introduction for all eight-11 year-olds new to the sport.
Complementing junior cricket, Dynamos provides children with a more social offer focused on developing fundamental movement skills and applying them in an exciting game of countdown cricket.
Every child who registers will receive their very own Dynamos Cricket New Balance t-shirt, personalised with their name and number.
