National Ramblers wellbeing walks set to launch in Fenland
Discovered a new love for walking during the Covid-19 pandemic? Then you know how great it is for your health and physical and mental wellbeing.
Now even more people will be able to discover the joys of walking thanks to a new programme from Fenland District Council’s Active Fenland team.
Active Fenland, which provides a range of sports and physical activity sessions across the district, is launching a new Wellbeing Walks scheme. It is part of the new Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Wellbeing Walks scheme, which is part of the wider national Ramblers Wellbeing Walks network.
The group walks, which will all be led by trained Ramblers volunteer walk leaders, will all be specially designed to be short (30-90 minutes) and over easy ground, so they are ideal if you’ve never walked before. They’re a great way to meet new people and walk in good
company, and to give your health and wellbeing a boost.
Get involved.
A series of taster walks are being held across Fenland to give people a chance to come and have a go at a Wellbeing Walk. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer walk leader can also pop along to ask the team any questions about what it involves. The tasters are being
held as follows:
March - West End Park Bandstand - Thursday, 31 March at 10am
Chatteris - Little Acre Pocket Park - Thursday, 31 March at 1pm
Wisbech - Wisbech Park Bandstand - Thursday, 7 April at 10am
Whittlesey - Buttercross, Market Place - Friday, 8 April at 10am
Details of where and when regular Wellbeing Walks will be held will be released soon – so keep an eye on Active Fenland’s webpage at www.fenland.gov.uk/ActiveFenland or follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ActiveFenland for updates.
Cllr Sam Clark, the Council’s portfolio holder responsible for health and leisure, said: “Even a small amount of walking can give your health and wellbeing a significant boost, so I’m delighted to see these Wellbeing Walks launch in Fenland, in partnership with the Ramblers. They’re the perfect way to keep active, meet new people and enjoy the pleasure of walking with like-minded walkers.
“Keep your eyes peeled for a timetable of walks launching across the district soon. If you’d like to lead a walk in your local community, we’d love to hear from you too.”
