Due to a potential flood risk North Bank will be closed from this evening until further notice.

A Peterborough City Council spokesman said the road would be closed from 8pm tonight.

Traffic will be diverted via Whittlesey Road, The Causeway, A47, Paston Parkway, Parnwell Way, Oxney Road, Edgerley Drain Road, Storey’s Bar Road, Pearces Road, Northey Road and vice versa.

The Environment Agency have issued a Flood Warning on the River Nene to the east of Peterborough and the West of the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice, meaning flooding is expected.

The EA said: “During periods of high tide the river will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding at North Bank Road.”

There is also a Flood Alert, meaning flooding is possible, on the River Nene between Wansford and the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice to the east of Peterborough.
