North East Cambs MP Steve Barclay has been promoted to Brexit Secretary

Local MP Steve Barclay has been named as the new Brexit Secretary this afternoon (Friday).

Mr Barclay, MP for North East Cambs, who has been a Leave Supporter was previously serving as a health minister in Theresa May's Conservative government.

He replaces Dominic Raab, who resigned yesterday morning (Thursday) over Prime Minister May's withdrawal agreement for Brexit.

The announcement comes after Amber Rudd was named the new work and pensions secretary.

Mr Barclay has also previously held the position of whip at the Treasury.
