Long Sutton Freemasons were left with a buzz after hosting a successful open day
Organisers of a successful open day say they are still ‘buzzing’ and ‘coming down from the highs’ of the event.
The Long Sutton Freemasons held their first open day in 20 years at the historic Garth Waite Masonic Hall on Saturday.
Masons from the Alexandra, St Mary and Fenland Daylight lodges welcomed countless visitors to the event – with some travelling more than an hour to attend.
Martin Dickinson, who has been a Mason for 28 years, said: “It was a hugely successful day, I lost count of people coming through the door.
“We had lots of local people visiting but also many visitors came from further afield. We're still coming down from the high of Saturday and buzzing from it as it was such a success.
“The idea behind hosting the open day was to promote freemasonry around the community and support the people who were interested in joining.”
The group is traditionally for men, however, Martin explained that the organisation is moving with the times and there are now three lodges for women across Lincolnshire.
Martin added: “The way I would describe freemasonry is it’s a huge charity organisation. We were one of the first charities to donate to Ukraine and last year we donated £375,000 to worthy causes in Lincolnshire.
“We also do an awful lot of work within the local community by supporting events and organisations. We have previously made donations to the Long Sutton Hockey Club, Long Sutton Cricket Club and during the Covid pandemic we gave money to the University Academy Long Sutton School, so they were able to provide laptops for remote learning.
“It is fantastic being a Mason, you progress through different roles and throughout your Masonic career you are supported, guided and educated.
“We had a lot of people interested in joining on the open day and we will most certainly organise another one.”
