People are being urged to get regular chimney maintenance after firefighters were called to a blaze at a home.

Firefighters were called to a blaze at a home last night.

Fire crews from Wisbech and March were called on Tuesday at 7.13pm to a fire on Bowthorpe Road in Wisbech.

The crew arrived to find a fire involving a log burner in a house, spreading to the chimney.

A fire service spokesman said: "Please ensure that you get your chimney swept and brickwork inspected regularly at least once a year.

“The debris build-up in the flue can be set alight when heating the home, which could cause a significant fire. Regular chimney maintenance will help prevent this from happening."

They extinguished the fire and returned to their stations by 8.12pm.
