Plans for new McDonald’s drive-thru in Whittlesey

The location of a possible new McDonald’s drive-thru in Fenland has been revealed.

Plans have been submitted to Fenland District Council asking for permission to build the new restaurant off Peterborough Road, Whittlesey.

An existing office at the site is proposed to be demolished to make way for the McDonald’s restaurant.

An outline planning application to redevelop this site to build a new drive-thru restaurant was approved by the district council in 2023.

At the time, what business would ultimately run the restaurant was not set out, but as an outline application, more detailed plans needed to be submitted before work could start.

A reserved matters application setting out these more detailed proposals has now been submitted by McDonald’s Restaurants Limited.

The plans show how a new access road is proposed to be created off Peterborough Road, with 18 car parking spaces proposed on site, two of which would be disabled spaces.

The new McDonald’s restaurant is proposed to be built parallel to Funtham’s Lane, with a drive-through road going around the edge of the building.

A small outdoor patio seating area is proposed to be created next to the entrance, with five cycle parking stands and two cycle lockers also proposed.

The district council will now have to consider the application and decide whether the development of the new McDonald’s restaurant can go ahead.
