Sutton Bridge firm Tears Recovery submits plans to move to new site in Long Sutton

A roadside recovery company is hoping to move sites after its current base became ‘dilapidated’.

Tears Recovery have made an application to demolish existing commercial buildings and erect new office, admin buildings and workshops to accommodate its proposed relocation in Sutton Bridge.

“The Sutton Bridge depot is now at the end of its useful life as the buildings are outdated and dilapidated and the site is in the middle of Sutton Bridge (off Bridge Road) surrounded on all sides by residential development,” read the planning application’s design and access statement, prepared on behalf of the company by agent 3D Planning.

“The buildings are mostly uninsulated crinkly sheet construction and are open such that they are very inefficient in terms of energy use and sound retention.

“This leads to issues of noise and disturbance from the uninsulated and open buildings as well as parking issues in the surrounding residential streets.

“It is proposed to relocate the entire operation from Sutton Bridge including the vehicle maintenance and 24-hour vehicle recovery function to the new site.”

The business is hoping to move its head office from 262 Bridge Road in Sutton Bridge to land to the rear of 45-47 Bridge Road in Long Sutton.

The proposed new site is a former commercial agricultural packing plant and yard, which has been unused for years.

It contains a number of buildings in various states of disrepair, the statement saying ‘most have been extensively vandalised’.

Tears - which began operating from Sutton Bridge, expanding its vehicle recovery service to include further depots in King’s Lynn, Spalding and Fakenham - employs 56 people, 29 from the Sutton Bridge site.

The statement added: “The applicant’s business is long established in the area and wants to retain is presence in the Long Sutton area as most of the staff are local, so the relocation is important for the company- going forward and to wider economic prosperity in the area.”
