Shoplifters from Wisbech sent to prison after stealing gift sets from Boots
A pair of shoplifters have both been jailed after stealing from gift sets from a Boots store.
Tanya Momot, 30, and Scott Mcspadden, 39, entered the store in Wisbech's Horsefair Shopping Centre at about 11am on Monday, February 13.
They both appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Monday (April 3) where Momot was sentenced to 28 weeks in prison and Mcspadden eight weeks in prison.
It comes after the pair headed straight to the gift sets aisle and picked up three Ted Baker sets and one Soap and Glory set, worth a total of £52.50.
They walked straight out of the store without paying, the whole incident took less than one minute.
Both were captured on CCTV in the store, which was handed over to police who identified both suspects.
Momot and Mcspadden, both of Lynn Road, Wisbech, were arrested on Friday, March 31.
Momot was already known to officers and is currently subject to a two-year criminal behaviour order (CBO) from June last year.
The CBO prohibits her from entering Horsefair Shopping Centre and all shops in the vicinity.
Momot’s arrest also activated a suspended sentence handed to her on 21 January for six counts of theft from a shop and breach of a CBO. Momot pleaded guilty to breaching a CBO, breaching a suspended sentence and theft from a shop. Mcspadden pleaded guilty to theft from a shop.
PC Jake Smith said: “Shoplifting can have a huge impact on both businesses and those who work for them. It often comes together with other crimes including criminal damage and violence.
“Momot and Mcspadden showed a complete disregard for the law and will now spend time in prison where they will hopefully reflect on their actions.”
