Survey shows Chatteris road signs are wonky, missing, overgrown and dirty
Wonky, overgrown, and faded – that was the verdict on road signs around one Fenland town.
Chatteris Town Council was given an update on the state of road signs after Cllr Sharon Selman and town clerk Joanna Melton carried out a survey recently.
Mrs Melton said: “Have had a look the general comment is most signs need a good clean, some are covered in vegetation that needs cutting back, some are wonky or slewed and others are faded and one or two are missing.”
She said the main concern was missing directional signs on the A142. One was lying on the verge and another was missing altogether.
Mrs Melton said the missing one was by Bartletts and she said when drivers approach the Huntingdon Road roundabout they have no idea where they need to go.
There were also concerns about the state of some of the roads themselves with resurfacing needed particularly along Wenny Road and New Road, High Street and Station Street.
Councillors noted the report which will be passed to county highways in the hope action will be taken.
