Doddington teenager Cruze Doran gave brother’s driving licence to the police
An 18-year-old who lied to the police by showing his brother’s driving licence when pulled over has been fined.
Cruze Doran, of Benwick Road in Doddington, appeared at King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he admitted three offences.
He pleaded guilty to obstructing the police, as well as driving a car without a licence or insurance.
Doran was driving a blue Audi on the A47 in Dereham with a child in the car on March 29.
Police were on patrol when they saw that the vehicle he was driving had no insurance.
They pulled Doran over and asked to see a driving licence.
Doran handed over a licence which had a date of birth from 1996 on it, showing a man who looked similar to him but had a different beard.
Doran was arrested for obstructing the police.
In mitigation, duty solicitor Tiffany Meredith told the court that Doran had used his brother’s car and licence to go and see a friend in hospital.
“He had taken his 12-year-old nephew with him,” she said.
“He accepts that he has not passed his test, but has experience driving.
“He was in a bit of a panic at the time, but there was some element of planning. He wasn’t thinking properly - he wanted to go and see his friend in hospital.”
Eight points were added to Doran’s provisional licence, and he was also fined £284.
He will also pay a £114 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.
