A Wisbech councillor has now crossed the floor to join the United Kingdom Independence Party.

David Patrick, an independent who represents Kirkgate on Wisbech Town Council and Fenland District Council, joined UKIP this week.

Cllr Patrick said “After much deliberation, I believe UKIP will give me a broader support network whilst still enabling me to maintain my own independent values. The Party’s constitution allows me to maintain my own personal views of what I think benefits residents best, rather than a party line.

“I have been shocked to see on FDC how the Conservatives are made to toe the party line rather than follow their conscience and the best interests of the residents who have elected them.”

Alan Lay, chairman of the Wisbech UKIP branch, said he was delighted to welcome David into the party.
