Wisbech nursery staff taking the plunge for Scotty’s Little Soldiers
A group of intrepid childcare workers are set to swap the nursery for an aeroplane as they prepare to take the plunge for charity.
The team of seven staff from Wisbech Day Nursery have been busily fundraising ahead of a planned skydive on June 17 in aid of Scotty’s Little Soldiers.
Jasmin West, assistant manager at the setting, who is among the seven, explained: “Nikki Scott Howling, who set up Scotty’s Little Soldiers, has been connected to the nursery for many years – her children attended here.
“We wanted to get back into doing something for charity after covid, and this is our first fundraiser and we thought it would be nice to do it for Scotty’s as it is such a good cause.”
The team: Danielle Rowe, Natalie Scott, Hannah Vick, Chelsea Leftley, Ellie Lovegrove, Jasmin West and Shelby King, launched their fundraising at the start of the year with the support of all the other workers.
They have so far raised well over £2,000 with the help of events like a pyjama day, a cake stall and raffle.
Jasmin said: “To be honest doing a sky dive has been on my bucket list, and I thought I’d like to do one for charity, so I suggested it to everyone at the nursery, not really expecting much – but the others all said they wanted to join in.
Scotty’s Little Soldiers was set up by Nikki in memory of her husband Corporal Lee Scott who was killed in an explosion Afghanistan in 2009.
Lee a former March Neale-Wade pupil was known as Scotty. He left behind not only Nikki but also their two young children Kai who was five at the time and Brooke who was just seven months old.
She launched the charity the following year with the aim of helping children like Kai and Brooke who had lost a parent who was serving in the armed forces.
