Wisbech play area set for makeover

Children and families in Wisbech are set to benefit from a range of brand-new play equipment, as the much-loved play area in Wisbech Park gets a makeover.

The new and improved play area, which will feature junior equipment for ages 5-12 years and toddler equipment for ages 2-6 years, is set to open in Wisbech park in early June, weather permitting.

Following a competitive bidding process with 5 excellent returned tenders, play providers Hags were selected to deliver the project and will be working from late May through June to ensure that the play area is up and ready for the long, warm summer holidays.

The improvements were made possible by the receipt of funding from the Government’s Leveling Up Parks Fund and developer section 106 contributions in Wisbech.

New facilities will include a centerpiece bespoke Saxon play ship and several additional selected pieces to give a wider scope for all ages and abilities. The new equipment will also be highly resistant to damage, with a focus on sustainability and inclusivity to ensure that all children can enjoy the equipment.

Cllr Samantha Hoy, Wisbech Town Council member and Fenland District Council Cabinet member, said: “This is a fantastic refurbishment of the existing area, offering new and exciting opportunities for play and fun for a wide range of ages and abilities.”

Cllr Steve Tierney, Wisbech Town Council member and Fenland District Council Cabinet member, added: “There’s already so much to enjoy in Wisbech Park, but these exciting new additions are sure to bring even more enjoyment to families across the town.”

Alongside the Splash Pad, which is scheduled to re-open for the summer season on Thursday 6th April, the opening of the new play area will guarantee a fun-filled summer for everyone at Wisbech Park.

Cllr Peter Murphy, Fenland District Council's Portfolio Holder responsible for Parks and Open Spaces, said: “We’re thrilled to continue to invest in our Parks and Open Spaces across the district, with this latest addition to be commissioned by the Parks team following on from successful play installations at Burdett Grove, Cricketers Way, Guyhirn and Doddington last year.”
