Steve Borrett takes Tydd Gote Angling Club honours from Dennis Houghton and Pete Emery on unfancied peg

Steve Borrett took the honours at the Tydd Gote Angling Club’s Sunday match with 13lb 5oz from unfancied peg 9.

With the drain running hard all day and dropping by more than three feet over the five hours the fish had spread out more than usual and Borrett capitalised by taking two big tench and skimmers on caster and worm for a comfortable win.

In the low numbers, Dennis Houghton and Pete Emery had a fish for fish battle on adjacent pegs with Houghton just edging it with 6lb 12oz to Emery’s 6lb 11oz.

Both took their fish short on maggot and pinkie, although of a smaller stamp than of late.

Don Green also tempted a tench from peg 8 that boosted his weight to 5lb 10oz and fourth spot and Roger Smith on the concrete found a lot of small fish, mainly bleak, for his 4lb 2oz and fifth.

Wednesday Open at Main Road: 1 Pete Emery 24lb 5oz; 2 John Taylor 21lb 14oz; 3 Don Green 11lb 14oz.
