March Golf Club hosts Captain's Day through James Campbell
March Golf Club had a busy weekend as it hosted both Captain’s Day and the President's Putter Competition.
James Campbell hosted the event on Saturday, with 90 members taking part in the mixed stableford competition.
First place was taken by Les Forrester, with Dennis Ellingham and Mark Athow coming in second and third respectively.
Shona Kent won in the ladies section, while the nearest the pin accolade was claimed by Lewis Hearn and Gail Arnold. Gail also hit the longest drive.
The best past captain’s score was achieved by Cliff Jones.
The event was sponsored by East Anglia Utilities Ltd, Microns (P.E) Ltd, Artronics Ltd, Hambleton Herbs Ltd and vice captain Max Flintoft - with all funds raised going towards the East Anglia Children’s Hospice (EACH).
The day raised over £2,250, which members hope will make a big difference to children and families facing difficult times.
James said: "I was so pleased with how well the day went, the course was in great condition, but with some challenging pin positions.
"I would like to thank all of the members for their support during my captaincy and also thank the sponsors of the event."
On Sunday, members took part in the Presidents putter - with the pairs competition being won by current president Carolyn Morton and her playing partner captain James Campbell.
Two Fridays ago also saw the club host its second 'Women on Par' event - a chance for women to have a go at playing golf.
Thirteen visitors attended, trying out different clubs and shots on the practice ground before a few ventured out onto the course itself.
Gail Johnson, ladies vice-captain, said: "It was great to see so many visitors trying their hand at golf. It is an ideal environment to hit some balls and to get a feel for the game.
"It’s also very sociable as many stayed for a drink on the patio in the lovely warm sunshine."
