March Town Cricket Club give relegation hopes a boost with win over Old Leysions




March Town CC gave themselves hope of avoiding the Cambs & Hunts Premier League Whitings Division 1 drop after defeating Old Leysians by 30 runs on Saturday.

March made 215 all out from 47.5 overs. Opener Alex Millard was run out for 69 off 77 balls with eight fours and a six, Aron Visser 60 from 71 balls with five fours and two sixes, Udana Ranathunga not out 18, skipper Samuel Clarke 12 and Callum Young 12.

Old Leysians were dismissed for 185 in 45.2 overs after they compiled a 100 opening stand. Sam Robinson (3-37) made the breakthrough.

Other wicket takers were Callum Young 1-18, Clarke 1-27, Curtis Oldroyd 2-18 and Visser 2-17 to bag 30 points.

Basement side March 2nds lost at Abington by nine wickets in CCA Senior League Division 1.

March slumped to 80 in 36.1 overs. Captain Jacob Gray struck 21 and Kian Pooley 18.

Abington accelerated to 81-1 in just 12 overs, with Shae Pooley taking 1-25.

League leaders Wisbech Town beat visiting Histon by 68 runs, meaning Wisbech lead Foxton by 24 points.

Wisbech posted 241 all out in 48.4 overs after being 18-3 in Division 1.

Gary Freear made 15, Sam Albutt 49 with eight fours, Ryan Clark 55 with six boundaries, Jamie Seabrook 82 with eight fours and a six, Anthony Palmer 14 and Joe Dunning 13.

They dismissed Histon for 173 in the 45th over. George Gowler bagged 1-27, Kieran Haynes 10-1-47-4, Palmer 1-26, Clark 2-36 and Freear 2-30.

Second-from-bottom Wisbech 2nds lost at AK XI by six wickets in Division 3.

Wisbech fell to 125 all out in 29.4 overs. Dom Stannard hit 26, fellow opener Thomas Hoyle 34, Spencer Snowball 19 and Ross Gardner 15.

AK XI replied on 128-4 in the 31st over. Brodie Ellis took 1-22 and Simon Freear 3-23.

Basement side Wisbech 3rds lost at Kimbolton 2nds by 9 wickets in CCA Junior League 2 North.

Wisbech stuttered to 110 all out in 37 overs.

Kimbolton raced to 113-1 in 16.4 overs.

Wisbech 4ths triumphed at Burwell & Exning 3rds by five wickets with five balls remaining.

Burwell & Exning set a stiff 265-4 when 40 overs closed, with Jack Hindle-Smith hitting 128no.

Henry Gowler captured 2-43, Finlay Murdoch 1-60 and Martin Knowles 1-23.

Wisbech, third in CCA Junior League 5 North, reached 266-5 with openers Adrian Clare (38) and Gavin Plume (lbw for 52) setting them on the way with a 79 stand.

Elliott Peck smashed an unbeaten 89 with 13 fours and a six, Finlay Murdoch 17 and Knowles 38.

Sixth-placed Chatteris lost at City of Ely by 38 runs in CCA Senior League Division 1.

City of Ely posted 207-6 when 45 overs closed. Anton Kaval bagged 1-37, Shimron Thomas 1-50, Oliver Tilbrook 1-25 and James Fraser 3-23.

Chatteris fell to 169 all out in 38.4 overs. Skipper Harry Matthews compiled 10, Fraser 25, Max Kelly 36 and Charlie Munns 55.

Hosts Chatteris 2nds went down to City of Ely 2nds by 106 runs in CCA Junior League 2 North.

City of Ely set 190-6 in 40 overs. Among the wickets were Harley Edmonds 1-27 and Mark Egerton 1-23.

Sixth-position Chatteris were skittled for 84 inside 23 overs. No batting details available.

Fourth-spot Wimblington lost at Haddenham by six wickets in CCA Junior League 4 North.

Wimblington just failed to bat all the way through, 160 in 39.5 overs. Mark Butler made 31, fellow opener Marc Eldred 17, Ashley Irvine 24, Connor Porter 36 and Jay Cole 14.

Haddenham replied with 161-4 in the 30th over.

Francesca Plitsch grabbed 1-37, Poppy Cole 1-45, Ashley Irvine 1-22 and Kyle Butler 1-21 .
