Chatteris boxer Jordan Gill on March 28 undercard at London’s O2 Arena of Josh Kelly v David Abanesyan European Welterweight clash
Chatteris pro boxer Jordan Gill is looking forward to getting back in the ring soon in 2020 after spending an “interesting” year battling with issues such as illness, as previously revealed in the Citizen.
The ‘Thrill’ on Saturday, March 28 boxes on the undercard at London’s O2 Arena of the Josh Kelly v David Abanesyan clash for the European Welterweight championship.
The 25-year-old Gill, unbeaten in all but one of his 25 professional fights, said: “2019 was an interesting year, three fights, two wins, my first loss, with my last fight in Italy in September, some saying was my best performance to date.
“With my fourth scheduled fight cancelled in December due to a health concern, it was an uncertain time.
“My career was on hold; the news that my thyroid condition was a temporary set back was a huge relief, but my time off wasn’t wasted time either, I didn’t sit idle, dwelling on the ‘what ifs’.
“Not only did I get married, spend time catching up with friends and family and being a normal kid for a while, I also spend hours, studying past and present boxers, testing out training techniques, working on mobility, practicing being patient and clever.
"I believe resilience is a key quality needed to develop, nothing comes easy, nothing is certain; each of us can choose to quit or to work/learn harder.
"I am only 25 and already I can recall times such as my A levels, ABA finals, loss of loved ones where things where tough and I have shown grit to overcome the difficulties and 2019’s challenges have only developed me further.
"So 2020, I plan to use what I’ve learnt, use my gained physical and mental ability to the maximum.
"On March 28th you can expect to see ‘The Thrill’ being more thrilling than ever, more polished, using enhanced skills and class to dominate the fight and display a world class performance. I don’t even know who my opponent is yet but I am already feeling sorry for them.
"I am looking forward to sharing this night with all my Fenland supporters as well as my growing supporters from around the country and world. I am privileged to be on the undercard at London’s O2 Arena one of the biggest stages in the country. Headlining is Josh Kelly v David Abanesyan for the European Welterweight championship. Other boxers include Conner Benn and Joshua Buatsi so it should be an amazing show.
