After a steady start, March were in with a shout when skipper Sam Mason (52no) and vice-captain Pooley (51) put on 101 for the fifth wicket.

But 20 runs from the final over was a bridge too far.

Scores: Chatteris 231 all out, 35.4 overs (Cameron Brown 38, Mark Leach 88, M Hill 22; Josh Hutchinson 3-20, Shae Pooley 3-64, Alex Oldham 2-29, Harry Gowler 1-28, Bradley Harper 1-11), March 2nd XI 214-6, 40 overs (Sam Mason 52no, Shae Pooley 51, Alex Oldham 26, Dennis Furnell 24; Liam-Haydon Hill 3-18, M Hill 2-28).

“But we gave it everything with the bat.”

March Saturday 4th Xl versus Kimbolton 2nd XI

The 4th XI’s trip to Kimbolton was always going to be tough – and a massive 212-run defeat emphasised that point in CCA Junior League Division 4.

With the home side fielding players with a great deal of Whitings League Division 1 experience, it was no surprise that March struggled.

Kimbolton 2nd XI, 321-6, 40 overs (Sam Mason 3-45, Simon Bradshaw 1-38, Harry Gowler 1-46, Steve Coe 1-62), March 4th XI 109-9, 29 overs (Steve Coe 42, Jacob Gray 20, Jack Stevens 15).
