Damp Wisbech Town 1st XI cricket derby warm-up at Eaton Socon in Whitings League
The damp weekend weather affected cricket teams’ scoring ability and none more so than Wisbech Town 1st XI, who lost by nine wickets at Eaton Socon.
On Saturday in Whitings League Division 1, Wisbech were skittled for just 64 in the 27th over, collapsing from 55-4.
Only skipper Gary Freear (10) and wicketkeeper Josh Bowers (28; pictured) got into double figures. Wisbech travel to March in a derby next Saturday.
George Gowler (1-31) took the sole wicket as the hosts knocked off the runs inside 11 overs.
Jamie Hallatt hit 42 and Josh Porter bagged 3-23 as the Seconds beat Eaton Socon 2nds by 25 runs.
Tom Buck’s 5-27 restricted visitors Over to 148-9 and the same player top-scored with 37 as the 3rd XI crept home by two wickets. They were indebted to late runs from Mark Buttriss (27) and Matt Duff (13no).
John Mallett took 4-18 for Wisbech 4ths but they were dismissed for 43 by Abbots Ripton to be defeated by 151 runs.
In Rutland League Division 1, Wisbech lost at Kings Keys by 25 runs despite Gary Freear taking 4-9. Adam Gardner returned 4-18 and Rob McGregor hit an unbeaten 44 as the 2nds triumphed at Newborough by seven wickets.

Wisbech 2nd XI 129 all out (41.1) 30pts beat Eaton Socon 2nds 104 all out 10pts.
Wisbech 3rd XI 153-8 (38.5) 20pts beat Over 148-9 (40) 7pts.
Abbots Ripton 194 all out (38) 20pts beat Wisbech 4th XI 43 all out (15.5) 6pts.
Sunday, Rutland League
Kings Keys 124 all out (34.2) 16pts beat Wisbech 99 all out (32.4) 5pts.
Newborough 2nds 114 all out (42.5) 2pt lost to Wisbech 2nds 117-3 (32.2) 18pts.
